Younger & Wiser

How the next generation of legacy makers is being shaped right now, even as we navigate our way through a global pandemic, economic uncertainty, and another volatile election.

At a time when many of our elder leaders have become overly short-term focused, and our established institutions are struggling to achieve a sustainable future, some of our nation’s youth have taken up the mantel of responsibility. They’re now the ones working to hold their parents’ generation, and their own, accountable for creating the change they want to see in the world. This is not the old school where the adults speak and the youth listen. It is the new school, where the dynamics are exactly the other way around; where the students are increasingly becoming our teachers.

In this article, The Legacy Lab’s founder, Mark Miller, introduces some of these new school thinkers who are disrupting the old school of leadership—the advocates, ambassadors, and activists who are working in a diverse range of fields and making a contribution today with tomorrow in mind. Compared with many of the old school leaders who have succumbed to orthodoxy, these new school leaders are more radical and open to possibility. They lead by embracing five unorthodox traits: creativity, courage, compassion, curiosity, and conviction.
